History of Mongolia (PH.D. dissertation “Social Transformation of Outer Mongolia in the 1920-1940s”), social and political history of modern and contemporary Central and Inner Asia; political history of Soviet departments in Asia; comparative analysis of Asian socialist societies; China – Mongolia – Russia relationships in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries;

Comparative-historical analysis of modern national movements in Central Asia; legal systems and nation-building processes in contemporary Central Asia, Mongolia and the Southern Caucasus; geopolitics and security in post-Soviet/post-socialist space; socio-political role of Islam in Central Asia in the twentieth century and at present.
